Mechanical Technologist / Designer

Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Senior Mechanical Engineer, responsible for preparing preliminary and final mechanical drawings for various projects using CADD
  • Performing liaison and coordination with various technical disciplines to check and ensure coherence and consistency of information on preliminary and final drawings for the mechanical components of engineering projects
  • Preparing preliminary and final mechanical drawings for systems related to heating, ventilation, air-conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, sprinkler & fire protection systems, elevating systems and other mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems using CADD
  • Reviewing existing conditions, drawings and specifications and obtaining additional data necessary for the completion of accurate drawings and specifications
  • Visiting project sites to determine and record existing conditions and/or deficiencies
  • Researching and incorporating relevant codes and standards associated with engineering projects including but not limited to National Building Code of Canada, Ontario Building Code (OBC), Ontario Fire Code, American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), American Society of Plumbing Engineers, American National Standards Institute, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and relevant corporate and client design standards
  • Coordinating design work with other technical disciplines and checking results
  • Reviewing shop drawings and material submissions for conformity to client drawings and specifications, and for accuracy and completeness
  • Ensuring that all detailed factors and standard requirements are correctly incorporated
  • Assisting Engineers in the preparation of technical specifications
  • Providing direction to Junior Designers as required and checking their drawings against design requirements to ensure dimensional accuracy and completeness




 





Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience relevant to the above listed responsibilities
  • Familiarity with relevant construction related standards and codes, including National Building Code, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code and other applicable mechanical engineering standards
  • Must possess sound judgment and well developed analytical, interpersonal, verbal communication and writing skills
  • Experience using Microstation V8i would be an asset, but we are willing to train the right individual with skills in other CADD software tools
  • Diploma in Mechanical Technology (or equivalent)
  • Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation is considered an asset.
