Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) and Security Perimeter Project
Overview
Our client, a large North American Public Utility, initiated a project to transition from the Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards Version 3 to the mandatory CIP Version 5. The new mandatory CIP standards was mandated by North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and protects the bulk power system against cybersecurity and physical security compromises.
In 2015, we were selected by to be the Owner’s Representative for the provision of Program/Project Management Services for the CIP Program. The new CIP reliability standards represented a significant transformation with respect to client processes, systems and physical infrastructure in efforts to mitigate risks to the bulk power system.
Comtech’s team also managed the successful tendering, procurement, management, construction and commissioning of the required Physical Security Perimeter to be compliant with the new regulations. We oversaw the process of taking a fully accessible environment and transforming it into a fully enclosed, secure environment around the entire facility. The facility is complete with full camera surveillance, fencing, wiring, intrusion and motion resistance. Security of areas inside the building were significantly enhanced and upgraded to protect key physical and cyber assets of the bulk power system.
